Illicit drug use and trafficking are global issues, threatening the health and security of EU citizens. Today's drug situation is complex, with potent substances being produced, trafficked and sold on an unprecedented scale. The European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) plays a critical role in responding to this phenomenon. We ensure that the EU is ready and able to face the challenges posed by the drug situation, today and in the future. Our work contributes to making Europe's streets safer and to saving lives.
From our base in Portugal, we assist the EU institutions and Member States in anticipating and responding effectively to drug-related threats. We issue health and security alerts and risk communications, share knowledge and recommend evidence-based policies and actions to address problems efficiently. Our motto is 'Acting today, anticipating tomorrow'.

The traineeship will provide hands-on experience of a full application development lifecycle within a real organisational setting, enabling the trainee to gain insight into how digital solutions are planned, designed, implemented and delivered in support of business needs, using a low-code platform.
- Contribute to the identification and definition of a concrete business use case, including the analysis, structuring and documentation of functional and technical requirements in close interaction with stakeholders.
- Design, develop and iteratively refine a Mendix-based application, taking an active role in shaping the solution through model-driven, low-code development approaches. Where feasible, the trainee may choose to work towards a recognised Mendix certification as an optional element of their professional development.
- Independently drive substantial parts of the development process in a supervised but autonomous manner, including implementation, testing and documentation of the solution.
- Participate in stakeholder engagement activities, validating requirements and demonstrating developed functionalities to ensure alignment with organisational needs.
- Support the management of the application lifecycle, including version control (e.g. GitHub), quality assurance and preparation for deployment in a production environment.
- Gain practical knowledge of key enterprise ICT concepts, such as authentication mechanisms, system integration, cybersecurity and data protection considerations.
- Prepare user and technical documentation and contribute to knowledge-sharing activities related to the developed solution.
Trainees receive a monthly grant of EUR 1421.

Eligibility requirements:
- Be a national of one of the Member States of the European Union, Norway or Türkiye.
- Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by the applicable laws concerning military service.
- Be physically fit to perform the duties of the post.
- Have completed the first cycle of a higher education course (university education) and obtained a full degree or its equivalent by the closing date for applications.
- Have obtained the most recent higher education degree (graduate, postgraduate or doctoral) no more than three years before the deadline for applications.
- Have a thorough knowledge of oral and written English.
Profile-specific selection requirements:
- A university degree in information and communication technology (ICT), computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of software development concepts (e.g. requirements analysis, testing, version control) and familiarity with web technologies.
- Interest in digital transformation, enterprise applications, and user-centric solution design in a public sector environment.

- Awareness of or interest in emerging technologies, such as AI-supported development tools is advantageous.
